Marina Nicolaidis
Marina was born in Geneva, Switzerland – 1968, from a French mother and a Greek father. She has resided in Portugal, Switzerland, and England and is now living in Greece where she finds the light especially bright and dazzling.
Her international background might explain why she values cultural diversity strongly and as a cosmopolitan, is devoted to appreciating every culture and every country.
Art has always been her passion and her internal driving force. Since early childhood she paints or draw daily. She also is a photographer. When preparing this introduction, we asked her if she found the Greek corona lockdown tedious or difficult to live.
The answer came immediately; She has too many ongoing projects to ever be bored.
Marina is an autodidact, picking courses when she feels she needs to know more about a certain technique, firmly believing that assiduous work, passion and a thirst for creativity is the best way to learn.
In the same way that she does not feel trapped in one specific culture, Marina is not someone pigeonholed into one genre. She has for example acquired a fame in the automobile world, as a rally driving brother and a fondness for industrial drawings drew her to depict sport cars on canvases.
And as portraits, nudes, landscapes, and photographs were not enough, She is actually working in textile design, creating silk scarves, textile bags and beach towels sold under her brand at « my greek world ».
It is not surprising that her favourite quote is :
"The creative adult is the child who survived"
(Ursula K. Le Guin)
